Trip to Romania

I just came back from the beautiful Romania.
Mountains were really impressive and i could have stayed there a few days longer.
People were really polite and very nice to me. Thanks to my new friends Michail and Dragos for making the trip to the mountain Sinaia possible. Food was also a real bargain and try to seek out those places in which they serve real traditional romanian food. Its definately worth to try.
Weather was a bit harsh for plein air painting, snowblizard on the mountains was a bit of suprise :)
I managed to get two plein air paintings done and here is a few tourist shots aswell. I also add a few pictures i took on the National Museum of Art of Romania. Definately a place to visit.

Enjoy.

Painting plein air with my sisters children

We had this super idea to paint with my sisters elder children.
I usually have 2 extra easels in my car, but i had taken those out to make extra room.
Well no worries i just taped these cardboards on to the piece of wood and we were ready to go. These worked out really good when we sticked them to the snow. I also forgot my extra palette somewhere so we had to share mine.

Here is what Helmi painted.

Here Henri's painting. After he was finished he found what we think is a meteor. :)

I did this.

New paintings

Whooe! Its been a busy day, i managed to paint these two today.
First one is painted in the life painting class that i am attending. It was amazing, as always, and i think we all learned a lot. This took about 4 hours to complete.
Second one is painted after that and it is also painted in alla prima style.

In the studio

"Pauliina"
2009 Oil on canvas

Today i had a painting session with my friends at the studio.
It was really cool to paint within a group for a change.
First we did, like an hour or so, an fast 1-3minute sketches and then we fixed the pose and got serious, sort of speak.
We had a lot of fun and I hope everyone learned a lot. I sure did. :D
Super thanks to everyone who participated.

The second one is painted today and we had a great trip with my friend, Mauri.
You can see a glimpse of him in this work-in-progress shot.
We started to paint when it was raining and soon the rain turned into a snow. I also had a temporary breakdown on my easel, so i finished the painting by having it resting on the snow.
It was a bit weird experiment, but we sure had fun!

It was a bit rainy today, but i wanted to paint this before all the snow is gone.
I would have taken this propably a bit further, but it became so dark that found it difficult to even get out of the forest.
It sure was fun :D

Nocturne: First Snow

Every plein air painter seems to be doing nocturnes, so I tought whatta hey, lets give it a shot.
This is painted in a total darkness only in the light of the headlamp. It was a very nice experience and luckily it rained some snow today and it enhanced the overall brilliance of the scenery.

The Old Log

The Leaning Log

These are all painted in plein air. In the first two the raining was really intense, but my new pochade box hold the canvas dry quite nicely.
All are Oil on linen canvas.

The Big Wave

I painted these waves in Porkkala, Finland, just before it got too stormy.
It was a very windy day and the reason i chose to paint in there was of course - the big waves.
I waited a few weeks to have the windiest day possible. Easel fell down a few times, rain soaked the canvas, but i sure had fun. :)
